Easteners is aimed for young teenagers to young and older adults (who may have watched it all or most of their lives.) The programme wouldn't necessarily be suited for young children, due to some of the offensive language used by many of the characters "slag!" which some parents may find inappropriate for their children. Also the viewing times could be quite late for children who are usually in bed by seven o'clock. It is possible that people feeling asthough life is really tough may watch the programme for reassurance, in that their live can't compare to those of the characters. On the other hand, some viewers might only watch the programme as they've been brought up with it, for example their mum/family have always watched it.
